EWA 2010 National Reporting Contest winner. Even the most posh suburban high schools in the Chicago area missed the mark on preparing college-bound students for the rigors of academics in higher education.

Using never-before-seen ACT data accessed through a Freedom of Information Act request to the state, the paper learned that only 20 percent of high school juniors in Illinois scored high enough on the four benchmarks the test making agency deems are most essential in determining whether students will succeed in college.
