LRP is seeking a Writer/Reporter to develop timely, advice-driven articles for its Title1Admin® website and accompanying newsletter, Title I Report/Title I Monitor. Our products provide high-quality, in-depth information, practical advice and news to Title I administrators at the state and local levels. The Writer/Reporter works within an assigned subject area to translate national education department policy, the latest research and proven innovative solutions and ideas into usable, ready-to-implement best practice content for administrators.
The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated interviewing skills and the ability to write clearly and concisely. Specifically, the Writer/Reporter will:
- Learn about our readers and the issues that concern them to independently generate story ideas to meet their needs; gain an understanding of Title I regulations and policy changes
- Conduct extensive phone interviews with key education experts, decision-makers, researchers, analysts, legislators and service providers to elicit advice-driven information; develop and maintain a pool of expert sources in the field
- File a minimum of four articles per week
- Contribute to a monthly publication plan using feedback from sources and observations of trends/emerging issues
- Visit successful schools occasionally throughout the year to uncover best practices; attend Company conferences as needed
Position Requirements:
- 4-year college degree
- 2 years of reporting experience with proven ability to generate story ideas and interview expert sources by phone
- Demonstrated knowledge of AP Style
- Experience working under tight deadlines
- Proven ability to write clearly and concisely and appropriately structure stories
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Ability to report to the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., office during normal business hours
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Adobe InDesign
- Experience with a local school system, either in a teaching or an administrative role
- Familiarity with Title I
- Experience reporting on the federal or state legislative or administrative branches; experience reporting on education at the federal, state or local level
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
