The Education Writers Association (EWA) is seeking an enthusiastic, mission-driven and experienced Web & Multimedia Specialist who will thrive in a challenging and dynamic work environment. This position plays a key role in managing the day-to-day operation of EWA’s website, creating and producing multimedia content, supporting the growth of EWA’s online resources, providing technical expertise and ensuring that all of EWA’s digital programs are continually improved to enhance the user experience. This person will also take the lead in continually analyzing, reporting and making recommendations on EWA’s digital content strategy to ensure that we are meeting/exceeding targeted goals.

EWA’s mission is to strengthen the community of education writers and improve the quality of education coverage to better inform the public. As the national professional organization of members of the media who specialize in education, EWA has worked for over 70 years to help journalists get the story right. Today, EWA members benefit from the organization’s high-quality training, information, recognition programs, and customized support.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Front-end and user experience
  • Recommend and implement technological improvements to enhance EWA’s online presence and the user experience
  • Monitor the website to ensure that technical aspects of web content are addressed
  • Ensure the accuracy, timeliness and accessibility of information on all EWA web properties, such as, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook
  • Produce HTML newsletter and marketing emails
  • Design graphics for web and print

Tech support and capacity-building

  • Produce and manage online programming, including webinars and podcasts
  • Edit videos of EWA presentations
  • Scope, recommend, and manage platforms for all web properties
  • Assist in managing member database and listservs
  • Ensure effective use of new technology and provide technical support to EWA staff
  • Manage relationship with CMS and CRM vendors, graphic designers, and printers
  • Serve as primary point of contact with IT partners
  • Research, acquire and manage multimedia vendors in cities where EWA hosts seminars

Analytics and reporting

  • Analyze and track website performance, and keep up to date with analytics best practices
  • Prepare reports with key findings and actionable recommendations to improve EWA website and traffic to meet target goals
  • Create efficiencies through automation (report delivery, dashboards and data management)
  • Train staff to use and understand analytics platforms

Essential Skills

  • Facility with one or more content management systems (Drupal, WordPress, etc.) and customer relations management systems (Salsa, Salesforce, Convio, etc.)
  • Practical knowledge of CSS/HTML, especially for use in email design and facility with email communication management
  • Experience with video and podcast/audio editing
  • Ability to produce webinars and assist speakers and staff through technical set-ups
  • Clear understanding of website content architecture and experience with content strategy
  • Advanced web and analytics skills
  • Experience with Windows and Mac operating systems
  • Familiarity with business applications for common social media
  • Proficiency with Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Audition, Photoshop, Premiere)
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills; effective verbal communication skills  
  • Ability to travel required

Experience and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience in applying the essential skills is preferred
  • Association experience a plus
  • Passion for K-12 education, higher education, and/or journalism
  • Ability to think strategically, take initiative, demonstrate creativity, proactively identify issues, and generate recommendations
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and balance competing priorities
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and exploring new platforms, and ability to train colleagues to use these new tools
  • Experience in planning multi-step projects and reaching milestones on time without sacrificing accuracy and quality
  • Comfort working independently, as well as part of a team; proactively collaborate with EWA staff, members and other stakeholders on relevant projects
