Seeking editor for national education blog

RedefinED is a seven-year-old education blog ( with a national footprint in the arena of school choice. Its name derives from the recognition that public education is increasingly being shaped and defined not by neighborhood zoning mandates but by parental empowerment and the extent to which education, broadly defined, is tailoring different learning approaches to the needs of different children.

We are looking to fill the critical job of editor. The redefinED Editor is in charge of all operations of the blog and related social media, including planning, writing, editing and execution of the daily output. In that role, the editor oversees the work of three staff members, including a writer, social media specialist and a part-time daily roundup editor.

We seek someone with seasoned writing, editing, interviewing, research and organizational skills and a broad knowledge of education issues. She or he must have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field and at least five years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The blog is published by a nonprofit, Step Up For Students, that helps administer four state-authorized scholarship programs in Florida that this year served more than 117,000 K-12 students with economic disadvantage and special needs. In turn, the blog focuses its primary attention on the changing Florida education landscape and the degree of parental choice here that is unmatched in the nation. The administrative headquarters for Step Up is in St. Petersburg, Florida, and we would prefer the editor be based in that office. The position reports to the Director of Policy and Public Affairs for Step Up.
