The Telegram & Gazette in Worcester, Mass., has an opening for a reporter to write education stories spanning pre-school to advanced degrees. Worcester is an urban school district of 44 schools with a $350 million budget. The beat also includes coverage of more than a dozen colleges and universities, including the University of Massachusetts Medical School, the College of the Holy Cross and WPI.
We are looking for an intelligent, energetic, self-starter who can turn around a story quickly and accurately for online, and add depth and breadth for daily print. The ideal applicant is a strong writer who can develop ideas and sources. Creativity, innovation and an ability to process numbers are a plus. Applicants should have strong social media skills and experience in engaging the reader on multiple platforms, and be able to juggle daily demands with longer-range enterprise pieces.
A minimum of two years daily newspaper experience is required as is a college degree, preferably in journalism. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
