Note Taker/Secondary Monitor

The Vander Weele Group is seeking an Educational Writer to assist as a Note Taker to monitor Native American schools’ compliance with federal education laws and mandates. The Note Taker/ Secondary Monitor will be part of a team that travels to Native American schools around the country. The Note Taker/ Secondary Monitor is responsible for producing compliance reports for each school visited. The Note Taker/Secondary Monitor will take meticulous notes as team members conduct focus groups during school visits and during classroom observations. With input from team members and a heavy reliance on his or her notes, the Note Taker/Secondary Monitor will produce a compliance narrative based on the site visit.
The Note Taker/Secondary should be available to travel a total of twenty weeks between January and June 2016. Comprehensive training will be provided prior to these trips. The Monitor will become familiar with the educational mandates of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Family and Child Education (FACE) Program, Indicators of Effective Practice (School), challenges to academic progress, federal funding streams for schools, and means through which schools comply with federal mandates.
This position requires extensive travel. A valid drivers’ license and the willingness to drive long distances are required. Familiarity with Native American culture is preferred.
