The National School Boards Association (NSBA) seeks a highly versatile and adept lead writer for its communications and public advocacy projects.
This position is responsible for development of press releases, persuasive op-eds, speeches, articles, columns, e-newsletters, video and presentation scripts, social media content, web content, and other internal and external outreach material. The incumbent will also create the communications editorial calendar, communications plans, and media outreach plans.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations, or related field, and related professional experience. Ability to produce clear, compelling and accurate content, with close attention to audience, goals, messaging, and tone, on tight deadlines. Strong background in public policy and time- sensitive public relations writing, news writing, speechwriting, video and conference script writing, web writing, social media writing, and content editing. Excellent project management, oral and written communications skills; knowledge of AP Style and content editing; and the ability to work well with inter-departmental teams.
Communications agency, and/or journalism/newsroom reporting experience, and an existing knowledge of education policy issues, with prior exposure to the K-12 education community, is preferred. Policy and advocacy experience is desired. The ability to understand and communicate effectively around complex legal issues (e.g., amicus briefs) with absolute fidelity to the legal argument is also preferred.
