Higher education reporter
Wisconsin State Journal
The Wisconsin State Journal, south-central Wisconsin’s leading news source, is seeking a smart and aggressive reporter to cover the University of Wisconsin System and its world-class Madison research campus, as well as higher education policy and student trends.
This is a high-impact, high visibility beat, requiring an ability to write with depth and nuance on deadline while working on enterprise stories and multipart projects, all while living and working in one of the sweetest places on the planet. Forever young, Madison is renowned for its beauty, outdoor recreation opportunities and a strong food and entertainment scene.
Experience in accountability reporting, aggressive use of public records law, and a high comfort level working with data is required, as is an aptitude or desire to shoot video. At least five years of daily newspaper reporting experience preferred. Past educational coverage is desired, but a can-do attitude and demonstrated work ethic matter more.
To be considered for the position, apply online at www.madison.com/workhere by June 27, 2022. Please include a cover letter and five samples of your work or links to five recent stories.
