Higher Education Reporter
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch seeks a talented journalist to cover higher education. A track record as a watchdog to governmental and/or non-governmental institutions is essential.
Candidates must be able to balance covering multiple campuses — ranging from elite private universities to community colleges.
We need a reporter who is comfortable writing news and features; who can can quickly grasp complex and controversial topics; and who can write fairly, clearly, accurately and authoritatively. We seek a reporter who can just as easily write about the campus fads of students, the pocketbook issues of college parents and the complex governance of college administration.
The candidate must be able to juggle breaking news, blog posts and longer-term enterprise. Most of all we are looking for a versatile reporter who also is a collaborative colleague, critical thinker and a graceful storyteller.
Moreover, the right applicant looks for ways to integrate photos, graphics and multimedia opportunities into coverage and is a leader in engaging audiences through social media.
At least two years of experience covering education, preferably higher education, is required.
