General Assignment Reporter
The Morning Call

The Morning Call in Allentown, Pa., is looking for an ambitious general assignment reporter who is looking to make a difference We need a scrappy reporter who can break news, write authoritatively and craft enterprise stories that our readers crave and can’t get anywhere else.

If you’re aggressive and looking to make your mark, this is the position for you. You will have the opportunity to write in many different forms, including breaking news, Q&As, profiles, quick-turn enterprise stories and longer-form pieces. At The Morning Call, we are looking to engage audiences on their level across multiple platforms, from newsletters to social media.

The focus of this position will be on K-12 education issues, which are of high interest to our readers. We’re not looking for a reporter to do meeting agenda journalism. We’re looking for someone who can produce daily stories as well as enterprise coverage of education issues, including occasional higher-education coverage.

We are in a highly competitive market so an ability to break daily stories and develop well-researched enterprise stories is critical to our mission of delivering what our readers expect from us.

There also will be plenty of opportunities to report and develop general assignment stories beyond K-12 education issues. You will be expected to develop a strong network of sources and have a strong understanding of what our audience is interested in.
