Freelance Opportunity: Contributing Writer
Education Week, the leading independent, national source of news and analysis on K-12 education, is seeking two contributing writers to work on a contractual basis covering topical issues in education. Each contributing writer will primarily produce three or more blog items a week for a single-author blog. This arrangement also provides ample opportunity to write full-length articles for print and the Web for an additional freelance fee. It offers opportunities, as well, to gain an additional profile in the field through moderating webinars and conducting live interviews at Education Week events.
About us: Education Week/edweek.org is a multiplatform, round-the-clock news organization that serves a national audience of decisionmakers, administrators, and educators–including 1.2 million online users. Our offices are located in Bethesda, Md., a bustling area adjacent to Washington, D.C., although contributing writers are not expected to work on-site.
Qualifications: We are looking for an experienced, intellectually curious freelance journalist who is able to turn around blog posts and stories on deadline, generate story ideas, and keep on top of beat-related news developments. Familiarity with writing for both print and digital platforms (especially blogs and Twitter) is a plus, as is experience in producing trend, news, and feature articles about K-12 education. A bachelor’s degree is required.
Compensation: Amount of monthly payment for blogging and beat coverage is negotiable. Additional freelance work will be on a per-word basis.
Interested?: Please send a cover letter, resume, and 2-3 writing samples to firstname.lastname@example.org.
