Education Reporter, Delaware

This fulltime temporary position is responsible for reporting on education-related topics in the state of Delaware. This reporter will have the opportunity to cover education related issues in Delaware such as “Race to the Top,” the cost of higher education, and alternatives to traditional education systems and practices. Candidates should have a knowledge of the Delaware education system and three to five years of broadcast, web, or newspaper reporting experience. The education reporter should be an engaging story teller with strong reporting and writing abilities. The reporter must have professional experience producing content for radio and the web, and have an understanding and willingness to learn the multimedia reporting platforms used at WHYY. Reporters must be able to work flexible hours and have a valid driver’s license and access to transportation as they are required to be on location at a story with little notice. This position demands a high level of creativity in attaining hard to get sources, and it is critical that the reporter is able to display good judgment in properly assessing the newsworthiness of their subject as well as its appeal to the reader. The position requires the ability to work effectively in a deadline driven environment. This is a temporary position scheduled to last approximately one year.
