Education Reporter
The Buffalo News

The Buffalo News seeks an education reporter to cover the challenges of K-12 education.

This position will focus on the Buffalo Public School system, one of the state’s largest urban school districts, as well as the ways state and local education policies impact students, parents and teachers across the region.

This is an enterprise beat that relies on deep reporting, good sources and public documents to generate ideas, not institutional meetings and press releases. The ability to use education data and open records laws to bolster stories is important. Must have a proven ability to break news, turn around in-depth and quick-hit stories on tight deadlines and juggle the demands of reaching a digital audience. This reporter should have clips that show a knack for explaining why it all matters and providing the bigger context.

The Buffalo News is a daily print and online news organization with the largest staff of journalists in the region. We have a history of breaking the area’s big stories and investing in the stories that matter.

We strive to hire talented and dedicated people who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. People of all backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply.

Why Buffalo? The city has seen a resurgence that makes it an exciting time to work and live here. The region has professional sports teams, a philharmonic, a growing waterfront, Niagara Falls, beautiful hikes and ski slopes all within a short drive.

Send cover letter, resume and clips to recruiter@buffnews.com.
