Education Journalist
Chattanooga Times Free Press

The Chattanooga Times Free Press is looking for a smart, aggressive journalist to cover education. We’re seeking a reporter who can look past the agenda and process. We don’t just want routine coverage. We want you to be versatile enough to produce essential accountability reporting, hard-hitting breaking news and insightful profiles and trend stories that explain the impact of education policy on children, families and the economic health of the community.

We need someone to come to this job with a strong work ethic and lots of creativity. You must be a resourceful and persistent reporter who can develop sources, working collaboratively across the newsroom. You must be able to work in a digital-first environment with the ability to tweet and shoot video from news events, obtain and analyze data and engage readers intelligently before and after a story publishes. A record of digital innovation is a plus for any applicant to this job.

The Times Free Press is a privately owned, mid-sized newspaper that circulates in counties in Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. For six of the past seven years, the Times Free Press has won the top award from the state press association. The paper has been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize three times since 2013.

Chattanooga is a city on the rise with an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset and has been named the top “work from home” city in the nation.
