Editor – Education Project
About the Globe’s education project:
The Boston Globe is creating an independent special investigative unit that will examine issues of inequality in public education in Boston. Building on the findings and data revealed by The Valedictorians Project, the Globe will continue a deeper, more informed public conversation about the challenges faced in Boston’s public education system.
With support from the Barr Foundation, the Globe is building a team of five to six reporters who will commit themselves to the work of The Education Project for a two-year term. This team will be tasked with probing issues in public education in Boston and nearby communities with a goal of uncovering systemic problems and opening a conversation as to what might be done to fix core problems of inequality, social mobility, and economic opportunity in the region.
- The editor will manage all education project staff, approving and overseeing content production and driving progress of investigations.
- This role is ideally suited for a passionate, and relentless journalist with exceptional managerial skills and the ability to steer coverage toward an accountability and solutions-oriented framework for maximum public impact.
- At least 10 years of experience in journalism
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of investigative journalists
- Experience writing about education, Spanish language skills, and knowledge of Boston a plus
