The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) is seeking a Director of MCAT Products and Outreach to provide strategic guidance for AAMC’s portfolio of preparation products for the MCAT exam and for communications about the value and validity of MCAT scores. The new Director will manage two AAMC teams, one that oversees the portfolio of MCAT preparation products and another that is responsible for communication and outreach about the MCAT exam.
AAMC makes low-cost and free MCAT practice materials available to students who are interested in medical school, to the baccalaureate faculty who work with them, and to university-based and commercial providers of MCAT preparation. The AAMC is seeking a Director to provide strategic guidance for these products and services and to articulate a vision that advances the broader portfolio, expands the product line and customer base, and sequences development and marketing priorities. The new Director will help prioritize investments and align resources to realize these goals.
Meeting the preparation needs of students who are educationally and economically disadvantaged is a critical priority for AAMC. Meeting the information needs of faculty at under-resourced institutions is similarly important. With the help of medical school admissions officers and diversity affairs representatives, the new Director will provide a multi-year roadmap for improving and expanding AAMC’s products and services to students who are underrepresented in medicine and to the faculty who work with them.
In this role and in coordination with AAMC marketing, outreach, and publishing colleagues, the Director will provide leadership and strategic guidance for MCAT writing and outreach functions. These functions develop content and implement plans for communicating to a variety of audiences about the value of the MCAT exam in U.S. and Canadian medical school admissions, about differences in MCAT preparation and performance for students from under-represented groups, and about the availability of AAMC and other resources that help students learn about the MCAT exam, study for it, and practice for test day.
The Director of MCAT Products and Outreach will build relationships with staff from the many AAMC teams with which MCAT staff work, including staff in IT, Finance, Services Outreach, Marketing, and Communications. She or he will coordinate with colleagues in these and other units, look for better alignments, remove roadblocks and resolve issues, and contribute to the success of AAMC’s collaborative efforts.
A Master’s Degree is required for this role; preferably in business administration, business management, marketing, public relations, communication, or higher education administration.
A minimum of 10 years of related work experience is required, plus 3 – 5 Years of supervisory or specialized program experience.
If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
