APMG’s primary operating divisions Minnesota Public Radio, Southern California Public Radio and American Public Media offer multi-regional FM broadcast channels, website, mobile and social media channels, live events, national content creation and distribution. Together, these divisions operate 49 public radio stations and 42 translators serving regional audiences in eight states from Minnesota, Michigan and the Upper Midwest to Idaho and California; distribute a portfolio of more than twenty national programs reaching nearly 20MM listeners weekly through 1,000 radio stations; serve rapidly growing audiences on digital, social and mobile platforms; and produce an increasing and diverse array of podcasts featuring the best in food, culture, entertainment, mental health, water, early brain development, business and investigative journalism. 

Your Role:

APM Reports is adding a data journalist to its investigative reporting staff to pursue data, documents, sources and stories in the area of elementary education. We have an opening for a Data Reporter II. The journalist will need to be a hunter by nature, relentlessly pursuing public documents and data. Your references will need to rave about your ambition, persistence, creativity and precision. You’ll eventually analyze the data and work with other reporters and digital producers to present the data. A penchant for nitty gritty research is required along with knowledge of the art of public document requests. Most important: Investigative journalism is in your DNA and you love working in a team. That said, many times you’ll be working independently, and possibly remotely. National reporting experience is valued, along with demonstrated examples of your work in investigative projects.
