The Role
One Day, the alumni magazine of Teach For America, is looking for a resourceful, energetic, entry-level Associate Multimedia Journalist. Reporting to the Director of Digital Production, you will have the opportunity to work on a small and nimble team where you will report and produce your own pieces using text, images, sound, video and graphics, and will also work with fellow editors, reporters and producers to jointly produce print and digital pieces from start to finish. The Multimedia Journalist will bring to the One Day team technical expertise, a portfolio of digital stories, and an interest in cutting-edge storytelling and dissemination on digital platforms and social media. You are committed to supporting Teach For America’s mission to reach educational equity in our lifetime by connecting and inspiring alumni and corps members through multimedia journalism, and you believe in journalism as a tool for social justice. The Team
One Day, is the alumni magazine of Teach For America. We produce three print issues per year and weekly digital articles on our website, Through our reporting we connect the 50,000+ alumni of Teach For America to each other as well as to critical issues in education nationally. Our goal is to connect, inform, and inspire our alumni and networks through deep reporting on complex issues and by telling the stories of our alumni, students and communities. Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with One Day reporters and editors to produce multimedia elements of articles including video, audio and informational graphics (30%)
  • Create multimedia assets and stories for social media to promote stories from (30%)
  • Discover, report, write and produce digital and print articles that will engage One Day’s community of readers (20%)
  • Assist Director of Digital production with producing articles and disseminating through social media channels (10%)
  • Engage actively with innovators in digital journalism and coach One Day staff in best digital journalism practices, including capturing and editing video, images and audio (10%)

Prior experience

  • Minimum of 1-year work experience in multimedia journalism OR degree in multimedia journalism or documentary production

Work Demands

  • Travel for reporting and in-person meetings a few times a year in the U.S. required
  • Valid U.S. Drivers License
  • Large amounts of time in front of a computer screen
  • Ability to work in person and remotely


  • Strong reporting skills
  • Professional-quality skills and experience in shooting and producing video using industry-standard programs such as: Adobe Creative Suite especially Premier, Photoshop, Audition as well as AVID Media Composer or similar programs
  • Professional-quality skills and experience in audio capture, editing and production
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail and commitment to excellence
  • Experience using social media channels to disseminate content a plus
  • Working knowledge of Drupal CMS a plus
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and JQuery a plus
  • Strong interest in education and commitment to social justice; knowledge of education issues a plus​


  • College degree, preferably in digital or multimedia journalism
