About the Entry

KARE 11’s team spent a year inside one of Minneapolis’ most disadvantaged schools. The material they gathered led to monthly stories and a documentary that examines the institution of public education and its racial inequities.

Comments from the Judges

“Narratively and visually, it was a gripping, moving, unusually intimate look inside an elementary school faced with demise.”

“This is a rich portrait of a school, its principal, teachers, and students. It is very affecting. I admit to crying more than once while watching it. The access the filmmakers got was remarkable and revealing.”
