High-Stakes Testing a ‘Perversion’ in Texas?
Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott made headlines when he decried how high-stakes testing in many Texas school districts had become “a perversion” of its original goals.
There has been some blowback against his remarks, but it’s interesting that this criticism comes from someone who had been well-known as pro-accountability. He originally discussed it at a Texas Board of Education meeting. Then he repeated them during a speech to the Texas Association of School Administrators.
The Dallas Morning News provides a transcript of the state Board of Education discussion.
