Diving Into Data 2021

Overview

Diving into Data Workshop 2021
Sharpen your data skills through hands-on training in December.

The ability to use data effectively is key to powerful reporting on education issues, such as COVID-19 cases in schools and student loan defaults. Ready to take your data skills and savvy to a new level? The Education Writers Association is here to help.

Apply now for the next Diving into Data Workshop. The online training will be delivered Dec. 2-3 and Dec. 9-10 in four half-day sessions from noon to 5 p.m. Eastern.

Participants will receive intensive, hands-on training from our data coaches – veteran journalists adept at analyzing and reporting with education data. The coaches will meet you where you are in terms of data savvy and experience – whether you're a beginner, intermediate or advanced. Each participating journalist comes with a specific reporting project in mind and a dataset to work with. The workshop offers tracks for Excel, SQL and R.

Space is limited for this competitive program. Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from their editor. (Email it to data@ewa.org) Also, we highly recommend that participants plan to use two screens for the workshop.

The deadline to apply for the training is 6 p.m. Eastern on Monday, Nov. 8. The program is free for EWA member journalists. (If you’re not a member, apply today.)
