EWA Caucus on Teaching & Learning: An Online Reporting Community
COVID-19 has fundamentally disrupted the core enterprise of schools — teaching and learning. With education reporters on the front lines to help the public make sense of the pandemic’s impact on schools and students, EWA is offering a unique opportunity for journalists to step up their game.
We invite EWA member journalists to apply to join our first-ever online reporting community: the EWA Caucus on Teaching & Learning. Through monthly gatherings in 2021, participants will build their knowledge and skills to more effectively cover this vital topic, gaining insights from fellow journalists and national experts.
The Caucus also is a place to deepen ties among education reporters, to bond and network with like-minded peers who share a passion for the beat. It’s a forum to share ideas, troubleshoot together, and to get help in mapping out and executing coverage over time. Above all, the goal is to have participants come away inspired, informed, and with a portfolio of compelling coverage of K-12 teaching and learning.
We anticipate a group of approximately 15 to 20 journalists will participate in the program’s monthly gatherings of approximately 60 minutes each. In addition, there will be brief reading assignments and other activities between sessions.
This program is intended for journalists with experience covering education, preferably at least two years. (Those new to journalism and the education beat are encouraged to apply to our New to the Beat program.)
Update: We are no longer accepting applications for this program. Thank you!
