National Seminar FAQ

Where will the National Seminar be held?

All sessions will be held on the Boston University campus.

When does the National Seminar start and end?

Pre-conference workshops are from 9:00 a.m. to noon on May 1. The National Seminar kicks off at noon on May 1 and wraps up by 3:00 p.m. on May 3.

What meals are provided during the National Seminar?

Most meals during the Seminar will be provided on campus near the sessions site. EWA does not reimburse for additional meals.

I have a disability or dietary restriction. Who do I inform?

Contact Rachel Wolin with any concerns or questions. For dietary concerns, remember to provide this information during the registration process.

I have an idea for a panel or speaker. Whom do I talk to?

Contact EWA. We welcome your suggestions.

Will there be site visits during the National Seminar?

We hope so! Visits are still in development; check the National Seminar page for new details.

Can I park my car at Boston University?

Parking on campus is limited and EWA cannot guarantee parking. For more information, visit the BU Parking & Transportation Services website.

How can I apply for a scholarship?

You have to be a qualified journalist to be eligible for a scholarship. Complete the scholarship application.

I’m a journalist who received a scholarship. What’s the reimbursement process?

We will send you instructions after the seminar concludes. In the meantime, if you have specific questions our events assistant Tracee Eason can help.

What does my travel scholarship cover?

Scholarships can cover or reimburse your seminar registration fee, travel to Boston (e.g., flight or train fare), and hotel stay.

Scholarships DO NOT cover incidental charges, such as hotel costs beyond your scholarship award and the parameters of the seminar (e.g., hotel incidentals or additional nights at the hotel unless specifically approved by EWA), ground travel (e.g., taxis or shuttles from the airport to the hotel or home, car rentals, and associated fees unless specifically approved by EWA), baggage fees (checked or carry-on), other travel expenses (e.g., upgrades, travel insurance, parking, or meals). EWA will provide meals and refreshments while the seminar is in session.

I can no longer attend the National Seminar. What do I do?

If you are no longer able to attend, let us know immediately. If you had a scholarship, we may be able to grant it to another journalist. Refunds for registration fees are available until April 15, 2016, less $100 processing fee.

I went to make my hotel reservation, and the hotel asked me for a credit card. Is my card going to get charged today?

The hotel needs a credit card to hold the room, but you should not be charged before arriving at the hotel in May.

How do I get to Boston University from the hotel?

Boston has a robust mass transit system, and the Green line runs straight through Boston University campus (take the Lechmere-Boston College line). Attendees are responsible for their own travel between the hotel and campus.

I applied for and received a scholarship. Does this mean I’m registered?

Not yet! You still need to officially register.

Someone wants to attend a single session with me. Is that okay?

Due to space limitations, we can not allow drop-in attendees to sessions. Anyone that wishes to attend sessions must register.

Can I register for only one day of the seminar?

No, registration is for all three days.

Can I register and pay on-site?

No. All attendees must register and pay prior to the seminar’s start.

I registered, booked my flight, and reserved my hotel room. What else?

You’re all set! If you have any questions, let us know.

When will the schedule of events be available?

Soon! Keep checking our National Seminar page for the latest updates and news.

Can I get a list of National Seminar attendees?

EWA does not provide membership or event attendance lists per our privacy policy. There will be opportunities for networking, and we encourage you to follow the National Seminar hashtag, #ewa16.
