2010 National Seminar: Examining the Evidence

EWA will hold its annual National Seminar in San Francisco May 13-15. The conference  "Examining the Evidence" looks at the research behind education reforms proposed by the Obama administration and others.

K-12 reporters attending will examine turnaround schools,  whether testing can measure teacher quality and the common standards that many states are getting ready to launch.

Higher ed reporters will look at the Obama administration's 2020 goals, the future of community colleges, what happens to overachieving low-income students, and the quality of college classrooms.

EWA also will show reporters how to observe a pre-school classroom and review the latest on federal early childhood education policies.

Plus, we'll have lots of practical workshops on new media, new databases, freelancing, research and more. If you're a journalist and interested in attending, you can apply for a scholarship that covers one night of hotel (or two if you're willing to share a room) and up to $250 for airfare or car mileage. Higher ed reporters can receive a larger scholarship. EWA has extended the Early Bird registration from April 1 to April 9.
