The Truth is Out There And So Are New Members
Currently EWA boasts a healthy roster of about 950 active and associate members. Yet considering there are more than 1,100 daily newspapers nationwide and a boatload of broadcasting stations, we believe there's ample room for EWA to grow and expand its membership.
The bigger our membership base becomes, the easier it will be to fund and expand our services for you including our plans to hire a public editor, hold additional statistic boot camps, revamp the web site and hold web-based seminars (or webinars).
Thus, EWA is announcing the official opening today of a membership recruitment campaign, with a goal to increase membership by 180 over the next two years.
For reporters, we especially feel there are plentiful recruits at small and medium-sized newspapers across the country and at media outlets in the Midwest and the South. Those are our main targets, but we are very interested in adding new members from anywhere.
This membership drive will be spearheaded by a group of about 20 veteran members who will personally e-mail and phone potential recruits to provide personalized pitches of the benefits of membership. EWA effusively thanks them for generously agreeing to help in this effort despite their busy schedules
Even if you are not an official recruiter, you can still help. If there are other reporters in your region who you believe could benefit from membership, don't hesitate to encourage them to join.
We have put together some talking points and information about EWA to aid recruiters in this drive. If you intend to recruit some colleagues, please feel free to ask me for those materials if you think it would help.
Working together to spread the benefits of EWA membership and its value to reporters, we believe we can definitely meet our goals and possibly exceed them. And an increased membership can only mean better services and professional development opportunities for you and your colleagues.
