Background

Every year since the 1960s, the Education Writers Association has honored reporting that leads to a greater understanding of education through the National Awards for Education Reporting.

This prestigious contest awards prizes in 19 different categories and is the only independently judged education writing competition of its kind in the United States. The judging takes place each February at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland and prizes, including the Fred M. Hechinger Grand Prize, are presented during the awards banquet at the EWA National Seminar each spring, this year in San Francisco, California May 15.

All entries (or the majority of the articles in a series) must have been published or broadcast for the first time during the 2009 calendar year. All entries must be postmarked or uploaded by 11:59 pm (EST) on January 25, 2010.

This year you can enter online or download your entry form and mail to EWA.
