EWA Announces Theme and Venue of 2013 National Seminar

October 9, 2012, Washington, DC -- The National Education Writers Association is pleased to announce that its 66th National Seminar, the organization's flagship annual conference, will take place May 2-4, 2013, on the campus of Stanford University in California. Titled "Creativity Counts: Innovation in Education and the Media," the event will take advantage of its location in the heart of Silicon Valley to explore approaches that differ from prevailing practice in both education and journalism.

Washington, DC | The National Education Writers Association is pleased to announce that its 2012 National Seminar will take place May 17-19 on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Under an innovative partnership, EWA's 65th annual National Seminar will be jointly hosted by Penn's Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Washington-based national research association for 25,000 scholars engaged in research in education and learning.

Major National Reporting Collaborative Investigates How $100 Billion in Education Stimulus Money Has Been Spent

To coincide with the two-year anniversary of the stimulus, newspapers in dozens of cities are publishing an examination of spending on local education. Reporters have found that much of the stimulus money went to maintaining existing programs and staffing in schools. Also, many of the policy changes spurred by the stimulus money are already endangered by political squabbles and massive budget shortfalls.
The wave of coverage is the result of a partnership among The Hechinger Report, the Education Writers Association and more than 30 news outlets.
