Mission

The Education Writers Association (EWA) is the national professional organization of education reporters. EWA was organized in 1947 by a group of newspaper reporters with the intent of improving education reporting to the public.

EWA has had as many as 1,000 members throughout the United States and Canada and continues to grow. Journalist members include traditional news media from newspapers, magazines, radio and television, as well as freelancers and online media (nonprofit news media, bloggers, and web content providers) and citizen journalists. Associate members include researchers, school and college public information officers and writers who work for educational institutions and organizations.

In recent months, EWA announced that it will no longer charge for membership and that it will broaden its services to include all those who are interested in high quality reporting about education.

If you are trying to get your message out to reporters and other media, we have several ways you can do it. EWA strongly encourages you to use our online system to post press releases because it is simple and quick. Press releases must be education related and be of news value to reporters.

EWA does not send press releases to our membership, but membership mailing labels are for sale. Go here to find more information.
