Message From EWA's Director caroline hendrie

Things have been hopping at EWA. This week, stories pegged to the second anniversary of the federal economic-stimulus law are appearing in news outlets around the country as a result of a unique national reporting collaboration overseen by EWA and the Hechinger Report. Check out EdMoney.org to find all those stories and get ideas for your own reporting on the topic.

Meanwhile, we had a terrific time Feb. 4-5 at EWA's Higher Education Seminar in St. Petersburg, Fla. If you couldn't join us, or even if you did, make time to read the Washington Post's coverage or listen to the podcasts we've assembled on EWA's Ed Beat blog

Late last week, we helped organize a book party for The Bee Eater, Richard Whitmire's new look at Michelle Rhee's tumultuous tenure as head of the District of Columbia public schools. And this week, it's on to New York City, where EWA is hosting a one-day conference on teacher quality. Stand by for a recap at ewa.org.

Don't forget to register for EWA's upcoming National Seminar in New Orleans April 7-9. Travel subsidies are available for reporters, but they're going fast.

Hope to see you then!

Caroline Hendrie

EWA Offices Relocate

EWA was forced to find temporary quarters after a Jan. 25 fire rendered our Washington offices uninhabitable. Fortunately, our friends at the American Council on Education were able to sublet us space in their nearby headquarters. Our phones are again active, and you can reach us weekdays 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET at (202) 452-9830. We will work to secure a permanent home over the next few months. In the meantime, you can find us at One Dupont Circle NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20036.
