Giving Immigrant Kids the Tools to Excel
The number of LEP students is rising in New Jersey and nationwide. About 65,000 public school students were deemed to have limited English proficiency in New Jersey in 2008-09, up from 60,800 three years earlier. Most grew up speaking Spanish, but New Jersey students come from families speaking 187 languages. The numbers were analyzed through the EWA Education Research and Statistics Boot Camp.
