CHICAGO, IL December 14, 2010 -- As it embarks on a second century of advancing the dreams of Chicago's young people, Holy Trinity High School is excited to announce more than $5 million in gift commitments during the first 11 months of the school's Centennial Capital Campaign. The campaign has an overall fundraising goal of $7.5 million.
"The school's remarkable 100 year tradition of directing children from largely working-class and lower-income families to bright futures has resonated with supporters," said Campaign Co-Chair Craig S. Dean, Principal of AEG Partners. "Chicago's professional and business community is responding generously, despite the challenging economic climate."
The campaign is funding increased financial assistance and scholarships, academic enhancements, and capital improvements. The remainder of the campaign will seek support from the broader community to secure the additional $2.5 million needed to reach the Centennial Capital Campaign's $7.5 million target.
"Holy Trinity is focused on enhancing the educational experience for students today and tomorrow," noted Campaign Co-Chair John R. Raitt, Partner at Harris Associates L.P. "For the last 5 years every Holy Trinity graduate has been accepted to college. Through the resources this campaign is providing, we are building on our strong academic tradition and helping our students to set their sights even higher."
Campaign Impact The campaign has already made a significant impact on Holy Trinity's students. Over $500,000 in financial assistance and scholarship support were awarded for the 2010-2011 school year and two new academic scholarships were introduced.
This summer, the school's 1960s era glass block windows were replaced with modern, energy efficient windows. The campaign will fund additional capital improvements for the 1927 building, including classroom renovations, integration of technology throughout the building, and renovation of the school's science labs.
The academic improvements are being implemented under the leadership of Anne Coffey Rog, Holy Trinity's Principal, and with the input of Catholic university education leaders Mike Boyle of Loyola University and Barbara Rieckhoff of DePaul University. Planned academic enhancements include increased funding for faculty professional development, new honors and advanced placement courses, the addition of another foreign language, and expansion of the school's music program. "Over the next 5 years, improvements made possible through the campaign will position the school for another century of success and provide our students with every opportunity to achieve their goals," said Anne Coffey Rog.
