A fundamentally new approach to automation in education
Intelligent Micro Systems, Ltd. (IMS) announces the availability of TutorIT Math (www.TutorITmath.com) - a fundamentally new approach to automation in education partially funded by the National Science Foundation, the premier U.S. Government scientific agency. Paralleling, even exceeding one-on-one human tutoring of basic math skills, TutorIT Math is available over the web. In reaction to tightening education budgets, IMS a U.S. company, is offering 10 free hours of individualized tutoring to every American child. Dedicated users can earn still more free tutoring time, or cash incentives, by helping to grow the TutorIT community.
TutorIT Math tutorials automatically adjust instruction dynamically to meet to individual needs. TutorIT quickly pinpoints what a student knows at each point in time providing precisely the information that the student needs to progress. TutorIT Math tutorials make it possible to guarantee learning on well defined math skills. Any student who enters with pre-specified prerequisites, and who completes a given TutorIT Math tutorial will necessarily have demonstrated mastery on that skill.
TutorIT Math represents a major advance over other Computer Based Instructional (CBI) systems. Other CBI solutions all follow essentially the same pattern: Provide instruction and then test to see what (if anything) has been learned. One size fits all.
TutorIT Math is now available in two Packages. One covers Basic Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division Facts. A second covers Column Addition, Column Subtraction, Column Multiplication and Short and Long Division. A third package on fractions also is available on the website for testing and will be released shortly. Packages covering signed numbers, decimals and pre-algebra are planned for development over the next year.
Development of TutorIT Math is led by Dr. Joseph M. Scandura, an Emeritus Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, an internationally known scholar with over 200 scientific publications, including six books, holder of several patents and lead developer of several major software systems. He is a member of professional societies ranging from computer science to education, including being elected a fellow the American Psychological Association and Who’s Who in America. He also headed a special interest group of the American Educational Research Association and serves as Senior Advisor to Technology, Instruction, Cognition & Learning, an international interdisciplinary journal.
According to Dr. Scandura, textbooks, workbooks and human instruction will continue to play an important role in math education. TutorIT Math is not designed to replace teachers. Rather, TutorIT Math supports traditional instruction by doing what can be automated more efficiently than can any human or textbook, and it is available 24/7.
Parents and teachers who install TutorIT Math now not only get 10 hours of FREE tutoring (for their children/students) but they can earn more FREE time by referring others who also get FREE time. Furthermore, teachers, tutoring centers and home school parents knowledgeable in the use of TutorIT Math (a slide show is available at www.TutorITmath.com) may earn supplemental income by helping others get started. Professional resellers and other interested parties may contact IMS at TutorITmath@scandura.com.
TutorIT Math follows a long established pattern in automation. More and more things that humans used to do themselves can now be automated on computers. In each case, increasingly complex tasks have been automated -- not to the extent that they can be done as well as humans, but better. Advances in Prof. Scandura’s Structural Learning Theory, new technologies based thereon and feasibility funding from the National Science Foundation have made it possible for TutorIT not only to duplicate human tutors in teaching basic math skills but to do better.
TutorIT Math is designed for parents and teachers who really care about their children’s math education. In today’s fast technologically advanced society, it is not sufficient for a child to just get by. Studies have shown that success in elementary and middle school math is critical for success in high school math, science and beyond. Yet, American children lag the world in math and science skills and we as a country are rapidly losing our traditional leadership in science and technology.
TutorIT offers new opportunities for solution. Most students fail to succeed not because they are incapable, but rather because teachers do not have the time to ensure that each and every student masters the basic skills necessary for success. TutorIT Math is designed to fill that gap.
