Message From EWA's Executive Director

Whether you’re covering K-12 or higher ed this fall, a couple of fantastic learning opportunities are just weeks away. Take a few minutes this weekend and read up on our Ready to Teach and Degrees vs. Debt seminars for journalists. Travel scholarships are available, and you can apply for one even if you’ve received a travel subsidy from us in the past year.

On Oct. 27 in Minneapolis, K-12 reporters can delve deeply into the changing landscape of teacher preparation as EWA presents Ready to Teach: Rethinking Routes to the Classroom. Luminaries like Linda Darling-Hammond, Kate Walsh and Arthur Levine will explore how teacher training is changing, what those changes mean for schools, and why teacher prep is being called the next school reform frontier. For any reporter covering teacher issues – and who isn't? – this is a can’t-miss event.

Register for the event here, or browse the tentative agenda. There are still travel scholarships available, but hurry – the deadline to register is Oct. 10!

Then on Nov. 2-3 in Indianapolis, reporters are invited to join us for Degrees vs. Debt: Making College More Affordable, EWA's 2012 Higher Education Seminar. Over two days, leading experts like Sandy Baum and Richard Vedder will examine why college costs continue to rise, and what policymakers and university leaders are doing to get them under control.

Browse the tentative agenda, register for the event or apply for a scholarship today. If you have questions about the seminar, please contact Kenneth Terrell. The deadline to book a hotel room at the conference rate is Oct. 12!

We hope to see you at one of these great events soon!

All the best,

Caroline Hendrie
