Message From EWA's Executive Director

Journalists and policy experts spend lots of time talking about how America educates its students. But how well are we teaching our teachers?

EWA will devote a one-day seminar next month to examining that controversial question. We hope you can join us Oct. 27 in Minneapolis for Ready to Teach: Rethinking Routes to the Classroom.

Reporters, editors, opinion writers and other journalists are invited to apply for travel subsidies to this EWA event, which will be hosted by the University of Minnesota College of Education & Human Development at the McNamara Alumni Center in Minneapolis.

RSVP today and sign up for one of a limited number of travel subsidies. If you have questions about this event, please contact Lori Crouch. I hope to see you there!

All the best,

Caroline Hendrie

Higher Ed Seminar: Deadline to Register Nears

How much should students have to pay to earn a postsecondary degree? At EWA's 2012 Higher Education Seminar, you'll hear from leading experts who will examine this question, which continues to vex students, educators and policymakers.

This journalists-only event is hosted by the Indiana University School of Education and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

The deadline to book a hotel room at the conference rate is Oct. 5!

EWA will provide a limited number of scholarships for reporters to attend the seminar. If you have questions about the seminar, please contact Kenneth Terrell

Affirmative Action in Education: View Our Webinar

It's been almost a decade since the Supreme Court examined affirmative action in college admissions. In just a few weeks they'll revisit it when they hear Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin.
Back in March, we hosted a webinar to preview the case, discuss the context and weigh the possible outcomes with Inside Higher Ed's Scott Jaschik and Education Week's Mark Walsh. If you need to brush up on the case, their conversation makes the perfect primer. Click here to view it.

On the Horizon

Dates and venues will be announced soon for our January STEM Education seminar, our March Diving Into Data seminar and next spring's 66th EWA National Seminar. If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities for these events, please contact Caroline Hendrie.
