Message From EWA's Director
Since
2009, the federal government has poured more than
$4.6 billion into the School Improvement Grants program, one of the most
ambitious attempts at education reform in recent history. To help you
stay on top of this unfolding story, EWA has just published a new brief
examining what the research says on school turnarounds. And next month,
we 're offering reporters an intensive one-day seminar on the topic.
Attendees of our upcoming journalists-only seminar at the University of Chicago
on March 24th,
will take a close look at the research base behind
turnarounds, hear from educators involved in the process, and learn how
charter schools factor into attempts to revamp chronically
low-performing schools. Participants will also learn about a collaborative reporting project currently under way on the topic. A limited number of
scholarships are available. Click
here for details.
Meanwhile, make sure to check out our new research
brief on the turnarounds. You can find research briefs as they’re published at this
page on EWA.org.
All the best,
Caroline Hendrie
