State of the Union: Here’s Your Education Buzzword Bingo Card

By popular demand, we’ll be playing EWA Buzzword Bingo tonight on Twitter during President Obama’s State of the Union address. You can join in with the online versionof the game (click the box when you hear the buzzword). The hashtag is #EWABingo.

The bingo card was put together with input from EWA members working the education beat at the local, state and national levels. We’re expecting to hear about college affordability, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), and perhaps even some praise for Congress finally managing to break its ESEA reauthorization stalemate.

School safety is also on the topical short list for tonight’s speech, thanks to President Obama’s recent executive orders related to gun control measures, spurred in part by the 2013 massacre of 20 kindergarteners and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.

And there’s good reason to expect computer science as a public school priority to be on the president’s policy agendat: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is one of a handful of select guests invited to sit with First Lady Michelle Obama.
