New to the Beat: Apply For EWA’s Mentoring Program

EWA members share story ideas during a seminar at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill on Jan. 12, 2014. (EWA/Emily Richmond)

Applications are now being accepted for New to the Beat, EWA’s orientation and mentoring program for reporters with less than two years experience covering education. Both K-12 and higher education reporters are encouraged to apply.

Individuals selected for the program will attend a specialized orientation session at EWA’s 68th National Seminar in Chicago April 20-22. (Travel scholarships will help offset the cost.) We’re also matching up participants with mentors — veteran education reporters — who will provide one-on-one coaching and support.

This is a unique opportunity to both sharpen your skills and broaden your professional horizons. Applications are due Monday, Feb. 23 by 11:59 p.m. But don’t wait to apply – we also need hear from your newsroom supervisor.
